About the role
Family Support Worker - Fixed Term, Maternity cover, 25hrs per week over 4/5days (Salary pro-rata).
We are seeking an enthusiastic, confident person to join our Post Adoption and Special Guardianship Order (SGO) Support team. You will have a clear commitment to challenging discrimination of any kind and to treating all people with respect.
In this exciting role you will support adoptive families and individuals as well as Special Guardianship families.
You will be part of a busy county-wide team with a learning culture and high standards, where relationships with colleagues and the adoption community are based on support, respecting others’ strengths, celebrating differences and seeking solutions.
Enhanced DBS check will be carried out and U.K driving license required.

What will you be doing?
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the needs and development of children and parents and be able to respond with empathy.
- Have some knowledge about how children might be affected if they cannot live with their birth family and be willing and able to learn more.
- Liaise with agencies and individuals to secure resources and services and plan adoption community events (this may include cold calling).
- Support adoptive families and birth family members to share positive time together, where the child is included and always prioritised.
- Communicate with a range of people in different circumstances, including birth families, adopted adults, adoptive parents, young people/children who are adopted: to hear their views and respond supportively.
- Support delivery of inclusion groups/events for birth families and to promote their appropriate contribution to the life of their children who are adopted.
- Co-facilitate delivery of groups for children, undertake support tasks with families in line with plans that social workers have agreed with families.
