About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Children in Care Service based in the Northampton area for a Family Support Worker within the Separated Children and No Recourse to Public Funds to be part a team building meaningful relationships with children and their families helping them grow, prosper and achieve.
This is a large and busy team that works with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (under 18) and with families who have no recourse to public funds.
You’ll be part of a collaborative, multi-agency environment, working alongside social workers, education, health, police and other professionals to deliver tailored support. Your work will help safeguard children, promote positive outcomes and empower children and families to build independence and resilience.
You will be based in Northampton, but will be required to move effectively across the county and beyond if required

What will you be doing?
The primary focus of work will be with children and families who are subject to no recourse to public funds and from time to time you will be required to undertake some work with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in care.
You will work directly with children, young people and families to improve outcomes and safeguard their welfare
Supporting separated children and families with no recourse to public funds, you will help them navigate complex systems and access appropriate support
You will visit families in their homes and within the community to assess needs and provide targeted interventions
Contributing to multi-agency meetings, reviews and care planning you will ensure coordinated, effective support
You’ll monitor progress against plans, complete assessments and maintain accurate, up-to-date records

About you
You’re passionate about supporting children and families and thrive in a role where no two days are the same. You bring empathy, resilience and a strong commitment to safeguarding.
You will have:
• Experience working with children, young people or families in a support or similar role
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of professionals
• The ability to assess needs, analyse situations and plan appropriate interventions
• Good organisational skills and confidence in managing your own caseload
• Basic IT skills, with experience of maintaining accurate records and reports
• An understanding of relevant legislation, including safeguarding and children’s services frameworks
• A commitment to equality, inclusion and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people
You’ll be someone who can remain calm under pressure, adapt to changing situations, and always keep the needs of children at the heart of everything you do.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Barred List check
