About the role

The Personal Advisor role sits within the Leaving Care Team and its purpose is to case hold and provide support to young people, aged 16 – 25 years who are eligible for a service as per the Children Leaving Care Act 2000 and / or The Children and Social Work Act 2017.

The vision is to support eligible young people to achieve their potential as they make their transition to adulthood. This includes the Separated Children team.

What will you be doing?

As a Personal Advisor (PA) you will case hold high risk and complex young people and participate in the assessment and preparation of Pathway Plans for those who are eligible. The Pathway Plan sets out the young person’s aspirations regarding education, accommodation, health, social relationships and specific needs. For Separated Young children; how their immigration status may impact on these areas.

Working with the Practice Manager and the team you will make a personal contribution to a collective endeavour, to create the conditions for success and actively contribute to the development and success of the service. Alongside this, you may be responsible for representing the Leaving Care Service at working groups such as participation events and at Care Council meetings.

Alongside your caseload, you will be required to carry out duty on a rota basis.

You will benefit from the support from an experienced Practice manager who will undertake regular supervision and case discussion.

About you

  • You have existing knowledge of the legislation concerning looked after children and the responsibilities of Local Authorities towards Care leavers. 
  • You are aware of the legislation and practice in relation to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, young adults and care leavers
  • You have substantial experience of working with children and young people up to the age of 21 and 25 if they are in higher education in a voluntary or Professional setting.
  • You find it easy to talk, listen to, and develop effective working relationships with young people, including those who may be difficult to engage or are challenging
  • You are able to work flexible hours as required to meet young people’s needs, including some evening work and visits out of the county
