Reparation Supervisor - Youth Justice Service

About the role

Join a service that helps children and young people make positive changes to their lives while reducing offending, repairing harm and improving outcomes for victims and communities.

As a Reparation Supervisor within the Northamptonshire Youth Justice Service (NYJS), you will work directly with children and young people who have entered the criminal justice system, supporting them to complete meaningful reparation activities and restorative interventions across Northamptonshire.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will supervise and motivate young people during reparation projects, transport them to activities when required, act as a positive role model and help them develop the skills, confidence and understanding needed to make better choices for the future.

Working closely with colleagues, families, victims and community partners, you will play an important role in delivering interventions that support rehabilitation while helping young people take responsibility for their actions.

We're looking for someone who is resilient, creative and committed to making a difference. If you're passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a 12-month maternity cover opportunity

We welcome the opportunity to speak to any interested candidates so please feel free to email: gaye.arnold@nctrust.co.uk  and they can agree a mutually agreeable time to call you.

What will you be doing?

NYJS is committed to restorative approaches and you'll use these principles throughout your work, with full training provided. Working across Northamptonshire, you'll support and supervise young people completing reparation activities, helping them understand the impact of their actions and make positive changes.

You'll work with children and young people in our offices, community settings and, where appropriate, their own homes, building effective relationships that encourage engagement and progress.

You'll also work closely with families, victims, community partners and other professionals to support positive outcomes.

The role includes monitoring attendance and progress, sharing information appropriately with colleagues, ensuring activities are delivered safely and contributing to the ongoing development of Northamptonshire's reparation programme.

You may also be required to transport young people to and from activities when needed.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible.

About you

You will need to display a good level of understanding of the difficulties young people face. Have an ability to engage young people positively, assess and deliver tailored interventions covering a wide range of issues to potentially resistant young people and their parents or carers is essential to this role.

You will work in partnership with colleagues inside and outside the YJS and be expected to offer a range of approaches to your work, which are responsive to the needs of the individuals.

The YJS client group can live chaotic lifestyles and your persistence and determination will be important along with your ability to engage and re-engage with those who need you most.

Educated to GCSE standard, you will have some experience of working with difficult to engage children and young people.

You demonstrate a good level of understanding of the difficulties young people face, in order to meet their needs and inspire them.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Barred List check

When applying please ensure your supporting statement details how you fulfil the essential criteria set out in the person specification as this will be used for shortlisting. You will need to provide a full employment history including any gaps since leaving full time education
